Nitrogen fertilization time affects the root reserves of tropical grasses

چکیده

ABSTRACT Grass regrowth can reduce root mass, delaying reestablishment and grazing periods by reducing the nutrient absorption from soil plants. This study aimed to determine optimal intervals for harvest nitrogen fertilization in Urochloa brizantha cv. BRS Piatã Megathyrsus maximus Quênia, as well investigate whether flexibility of time is related accumulation water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) roots. The experiment was conducted a greenhouse, using completely randomized design, with five treatments (nitrogen after harvest: 0, 2, 4, 6 8 days) ten replicates. linearly reduced forage mass Piatã, but had no effect on Quênia guinea grass. For WSC starch concentrations roots showed quadratic response, decreasing day 2 increasing until 8. However, delayed led linear reduction content. concentration immediately improves masses, reserves. In contrast, exhibited greater flexibility, concerning time. interval between primarily depended which influences

Non-symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation in the Rhizo- Spheres of Rice, Maize and Different Tropical Grasses

Nitrogenase activity estimated in the rhizospheres of rice, maize and different tropical grasses grown under controlled laboratory conditions was shown to depend upon plant species. High nitrogenase activity (2000-6000 nmoles CzH4 h-' g-' dry root) occurred in rice rhizosphere, this activity being only 10 times lower than that of symbi0ticsystems;inthe rhizosphere of many other grasses grown in...

Shoot and root growth of two tropical grasses , Brachiaria ruziziensis and B . dictyoneura ,

Phosphorus (P) deficiency and aluminium (Al) toxicity are widespread in Oxisols of the tropical savannas of eastern Colombia. A field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of Al toxicity and P deficiency on plant growth and nutrient uptake of two Brachiaria species. To examine the influence of nutrient supply and lime on root and shoot growth, two levels of fertiliser application (lo...
